GANGO-JI
The original temple, Hoko-ji (Asuka-dera), was the first authentic Buddhist temple in Japan. It was moved to the ancient capital of Heijyo-kyo in 718, when it was renamed Gango-ji. The old town district of Nara-machi used to be part of the Gango-ji temple grounds.
